  3. Who should become Journalist – (a) follow your passion; keep upskilling; (b) Lot of Institutes – IIMC; Jamia-Militia Institute, Hindu (c) certificate is helpful, but it was not required from me. Too much competition now, hence certification is very important
  4. You should always be aware about whats happening in your area. Read New Papers – is very important for this career. Remain in touch of local journalists.
  5. PG Diploma as well as Degree Classes.
  6. After admission – what should be done. All subjects are not equally important. College will introduce all subjects but you need to focus on what is your interest. Improve your awareness of your topic of interest. College will enable you to find your own interest.
  7. Journalism is all about disseminating information.
  8. After College – now you are in field – You will have to do Internship; local clubs etc.
  9. Big Banner gives name recognition, name/ phone of big editors
  10. Life as journalist – dress is no more typical. Journalism is now a high-pressure job. Job pressure increases as you grow in career. Story – Ship wreck – Monotony may be faced, you may change your career if getting bored. Example – Automobile coverage repeating even after 15 years. With experience, the same story is presented in different and better ways.
  11.  Life Journalist – You get to change your career – because of your network and passion, especially if you don’t enjoy your career at any point in time. But change may impact your career, so need to have patience. Back to Government, media advisor to corporates, leaders etc., may become Thought Leaders or associates of such leaders; copyrighting; advertisement; public relations; digital agencies – represent Big Corporate – content aggregation.
  12. Lot of channels – Print, TV, Radio, Internet, Own channel – subscribers – Influencers.

  1. Electronic / TV Media – Print – days’ news is captured; electronic – is minute to minute pressure. Career wise – similar to normal standards.  Many things that are taught are not used in fields.

  1. I like to read Newspaper to learn about current times. We should think about the cause of issue and then find the solution.

  1. Large scope for banking, many more are needed.
  2. Lots of job – stable job, every type of jobs – right from 12th grade pass to MBA and PhDs. Satisfying job – since you are solving customer’s issues.
  3. Entry – 12th – basic exams – prelim & mains: Multiple choice questions, computerized tests and need accuracy in exam: 10th maths and 11th-12th maths is barely needed, 6th month prep is good enough.
  4. Good salary – Stable Job, ICICI bank+ Manipal relationship. Need to be connected to Technology – bent of mind. Good service delivery is needed.

  1. Bank Branch is just the iceberg, just a part of retail. Main business is collection of money from public and giving loans.

  1. History of UPSC – British introduced, pattern was changed in 2010-11
  2. For both Central as well as state level – administrative functions
  3. General Cat. -- 21 Years and Graduate and until 30 years
  4. OBC – 35 – 9 attempts; SC/ST – 39 years – unlimited attempts
  5. IAS, IPS, IFS, Railway, IRPS, IRAS, IAU& C, Indian Postal Service,
  6. Pre, Mains and Interview
  7. About 5 Lakhs start and about 12 times of vacancy qualify in Pre, 5 times in Mains and then Interview. Depending on merit – you get cadre.
  8. Pre-   form—Feb-Mar and exam in Jun; GS [200 marks] and Aptitude test [200 marks] – needs to qualify but is not used for passing or failing, but you must qualify – objective paper. Negative marking. Aptitude Test is similar to Banking Exam. Result in Aug.
  9. Mains – Oct-Nov—for prep – just 2 months from Pre-results, Vast Syllabus.
  10. Mains – Paper 1 – In any of the 22 languages – Writing and Reading ability is tested, need to qualify
  11. Paper 2 – English – Compulsory
  12. Paper 1 and 2 are qualifying – 33% -- must pass to get other 7 papers to be tested.
  13. All papers are subjective, approx.. each answer – 600 words
  14. Paper 3 – Essay, 3 hours – generally 2500 to 3000 words.
  15. Paper 4 to 7 – GS – different type of topics
  16. Last 2 papers – from your subjects – you can opt for this.
  17. Paper 3 to 9 – 250 marks – determine the merit list. 2.5 times of vacancy are selected for interview.
  18. Interview in March – aptitude/ body language/  -- 275 marks.
  19. Total Marks – 1750 + 275 : 2025 – determine merit list.
  20. Generally, cut-off: about 50% is cut-off; Main – 45 to 50% is cut-off.
  21. BPSC is slightly different from UPSC:
  • pre-: GS – 150 and no negative marking; 5th choice is none of the above or more than 1 option. Straight forward questions.
  • Mains – Hindi Compulsory – must qualify
  • GS -2 and One Optional Paper of your choice.
  • Student preparing for UPSC, is generally already prepared for BPSC. History is slightly different – additional 15- 20 days.

Ravi Ranjan:

Q: Is the syllabus defined for various subjects e.g. in History – for GS, it is Modern India i.e. 1857, but as in Selected Subject – it is all as per Graduate Course. Pre-lim has 15 to 20 questions from History. Mains- GS 1: also has questions from History. Same for Geography as well – many types of Georgraphy. NCERT Geography – 6th to 10th – should be studied for Pre and GS; also read – Pratiyogith Darpan magazine; Bharat 2020, Bharat-2021 etc.  Hindi newspaper is limited in information, “The Hindu” is good for the exam.

GS-5th – Constitution-Governance-Social Justice:  Mostly related Indian Constitution; Subhash Kashyap’s Books, BK Sharma’s Book

GS-6th – Science – current Science research and issues – mostly applied science and current researched talk.

3rd Paper Essay: Exam can be taken in any language except English compulsory paper has to be in English. One has to opt for 1 topic from 3 given topics.

Subject Paper:  Choose as per your comfort.

Interview: Mains cut-off is about 800 and Interview – out of 275, you need better score in Mains.

Prince:

Q: How to prepare? Present trend: applied questions are more. Fix a routine for reading topics related to current events, Current Affairs – The Hindu; Pratiyogita Darpan, Bharat Year Book, Economic Survey; lot of online – News Today,

GS – Science: Generally current affairs.

Largest Employer. Latest Exam had 2.4 cr examinees; 10th pass – Group D – Railway Recruitement Cell [RRC] Rs.1800; Group C: Rs.1900 and above – NTPC – Non-Technical Popular Category – by Divisional Boards;  UPSC conducts for Officer Grade – IES or Civil Services; Med. as well.

C- Notification: At Zonal level but now these are centralized and published by CEN- Centralized Employment Notification. All exams are now computer based [CBT]. All forms are online now. Devendra ji was member of the committee for the CEN process. You can apply only for 1 center. Exam – objectives, GK, Reasoning, Aptitude – negative marking. Once you join, you can have promotion internally. ITI has lot of value.

Technicians – Pilot, etc.  ITI is mandatory. ITI – reduces competition. JE – Grade Rs.4200.

Prep: GS – day-2-day current affairs; Listen to radio – 2 to 2:30 News; Pratyogita- Darpan; Includes 10th-12th NCERT text books, Basic GK Book; Maths – 10th Grade – NCERT+Bihar Board+Competitive  Book; English – 10th & 12th level; Arihant- Pratiyogita darpan’s last 10 year Question Bank.  Form a group and solve practice papers; Review question papers of other exams.

Give exam and keep preparing for other exams, the exam evaluation process takes long time – result may take up to 18 months or sometimes more as well.  Since exam has negative marking, hence accuracy is needed, and also competition is very tough. Exam – technique, process of elimination; Practice for Psycho text as well. Mobile addiction results in loss of concentration, hence prepare using books/ magazines.
