Discussion:
Why – every company is a business and MBA is good for running any business. It helps in all aspects of a business – sales, marketing, administration.
Many types of colleges: India - IIMs, XLRI, FMS, IIFT etc and globally Harvard, MIT, Oxford, Stanford, Yale, Princeton, Columbia etc
Gives foundation in business admin, also provides Alumni support. Networking is a great advantage.
Ravi Ranjan – what is BBA.
Answer: BBA is Bachelors in Business Administration and MBA is Masters in Business Administration. BBA is done after 12th, MBA is after bachelor’s degree. There are good colleges for BBA, one advantage is you can do BBA instead of BA or BSc or BTech
Ravi Ranjan – what is the subject criteria for BBA.
Answer:It depends on 12th grade and there is an entrance exam. Work experience is also important – part time jobs are also valuable. Also, co-curriculum activities are useful during interviews.
Ravi Ranjan – %age in degree for Cat exam
Answer: nothing. For MBA admission -- %age in Cat and degree %age + interviews are taken into account. All colleges have their own criteria. Extracurricular activities are very valuable. Doing business went in favor of Atul getting admission in IIMA.
Gaurav – What is taught in MBA:
Answer: 1st year – all papers, some marketing, finance paper, operations are mandatory,; 2nd year onwards – many optional papers e.g. Finance, Marketing, Strategy. I did an Industry Project during 5th semester at UK with a Start-Up; If you know which company you want to join, you should try to get a project from that company. Summer training is very important and enables you to get a job after completion.
Gaurav – What happens in Marketing/ Finance/ Sales etc.
Answer: You learn many things in 1st year. Marketing – make people aware about the company/ product; Different Channels. Sales – enables sale of the product. Finance – management of budget/ accounting/ P&L; Operations – process for all aspects of business. IT and Admin.
Gaurav – How much MBA College matters in getting a job.
Answer: Starting yes, but later on based on your performance. Placement season – big companies generally go to reputed companies. LinkedIn profile is a must for all professionals now, e.g., htttp://www.LinkedIn.com/in/atulkumar
Prince – I am doing BA, Hons, can I do MBA thereafter.
Answer – yes. Numerical ability is tested, so you need to be good in basic maths – Arithmatic & Algebra

Saturday Weekly Webinar on Feb 13, was mostly a FAILURE -- Speaker couldn't join and only one student had joined. So the intended call didn't take place. However THREE new volunteers had joined for the first time :: (a) Sri Tripathi Ji -- currently in Canada, a Nuclear Scientist from UP, has experience with volunteerism (b) Manish -- from Bihar, currently in US - NJ, has improved quality of life for farmers in Arwal area of Bihar, lots of experience in Agro related fields (c) Sri Veerbhadra Tiwari -- conducts online class for reading and writing English, currently in Gorakhpur.
We enjoyed discussing Vaanprasth goals/ approach/ issues for 45 minutes.

Action Item:
- Develop / identify right person [thought and inclination wise] who can act as community representative for Vaanprasth. This person should gather data about potential beneficiaries as well as their need.
- Talk to people like Nirad [who runs a school for weaker section] and help him with Vaanprasth volunteers, if needed.
Discussion Items:
- Free Things -- has less value, people may be thinking that we are using the info for making money. However, let's continue, overtime truth shall prevail.
- Create village level committee, who will identify the needs and we will deliver appropriately. If resources are needed, this committee can get help from government/ other institutions e.g. Cylce for Girls from Govt.
- There is issue of caste and have-have-nots in villages and also jealousy.
- Why lack of attendance:
- Our students have Understood the process to improve English Speaking and can practice on their own and hence have stopped attending our sessions.
- Due to exam, they are busy
- Technical challenge – weak signal, cost of data, lack of cell phone etc.
- We are giving them what we have not necessarily what they need.
Tripathi ji has developed relationship with many people in his village over time by helping many financially.
